Last Thursday, something really special happened. Our school hosts some night art classes for the adults that live in town. One night after I finished my work in the studio—around 9 pm—I wandered by their classroom and decided to check it out. There was a woman in her forties who was originally from Guangdong, China. We started chatting and, once she learned I had yet to eat anything, she insisted on letting me have her homemade dinner and snacks. It was such a touching moment, but I never saw her again.

In math class I feel good. I feel content to be learning. I like numbers a lot.

It has been fun being at home with my family since I normally do not get to see them that much.

Strange times don’t even begin to explain this. Yesterday I sat on my bed with my daughters and we all worked on our homework. My oldest daughter said, ” I don’t know if I can do this much longer, mom”. There was silence and we could hear the rain outside, thundering against the ground. And then we heard a bird, not chirping, but singing. I told my daughter we need to be like that bird, it’s raining on our lives right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find some happiness.

I miss libraries. To be 100% honest I am somewhat happy I get to take a break from the social scene. I was spending a lot of time organizing things for my dance team and it was wearing me out a bit. I do miss dancing, but do not miss having that many commitments on top of schoolwork.

My workload was too high to have any life outside of my school work. If anything, working from home has been a relief since the fact that I no longer have to attend physical lectures gives me more time to work on assignments and has allowed me to have a little spare time to enjoy my hobbies. My mental health has improved substantially since the shift to online.
